Week 12 – Art Style Guide (Custom Style Guide/Starting Prototype)

This week we kept on polishing our art style guides and ended up changing up some parts of the project. We decided to move away from having Rapunzel and Flynn in the scene, and are focusing on using Pascal as the main interactor for the experience instead. These are the slides I worked on for this week: Inspiration, Lighting/Atmosphere, Pascal, Shape Language (Pascal).

We also started the proxy this week! Our team recorded a video of what each of us worked on, which is linked at the bottom of this post. After recording this video, I did work on adding a glowing material to the particles, fully whiteboxing the whole level, fixing the skybox, and adding more exponential height fog and atmospheric VFX.

Week 06 - Use of Perspective

This week the theme was transport! We all were supposed to model a 3D object and make an illustration in photoshop with a render that focuses on perspective.

Here's my reference board:

I decided to make the Mugen Train from Demon Slayer. Here's my final illustration.

Week 05 - Use of Composition

This week in common art we learned about composition! For my assignment, I chose Leyendecker for my target artist and the rule of thirds as the composition type. Idecided to do a redraw of one of his pieces with my own characters. The characters I chose for this was actually both from DnD and FFXIV.

Here is the reference I chose:

Week 02 - Use of Silhouettes

This week, I tried my hand at redesigning Link from the Legend of Zelda. I decided to go with an ancient civilization theme. I used inspiration from Greek, Roman, Minoan, and Mycenean ancient cultures. This was a fun exercise to do. It was a bit hard to design since Link is a humanoid figure and changing his outfit and hair pretty much makes him lose what makes him recognizable. I did my best though and I'm mostly happy with the outcome.

Week 01 - Use of Basic Shapes

This week I tried my hand at designing some characters for class! I really enjoyed making the circle and triangle based creature. The square one was a lot harder for me to design and I just kept getting art block while trying to draw it. I did really enjoy this assignment though and I think it would be cool to see if I can translate these designs to 3D.

First Post!

Hey guys! This is my first post for my FIEA art blog! I'm very excited for what's to come in the next year and half and can't wait to learn more about game art. Here's a couple of doodles I made during my last D&D session!
