Week 05 - Use of Composition

This week in common art we learned about composition! For my assignment, I chose Leyendecker for my target artist and the rule of thirds as the composition type. Idecided to do a redraw of one of his pieces with my own characters. The characters I chose for this was actually both from DnD and FFXIV.

Here is the reference I chose:

Module 2 Week 05 Homework (Advanced)

So this week in 3D Art, we all started our projects to prepare for industry review. I decided to go with the more difficult cannon project, but since I had previously made a cannon in former FIEA professor- Hezekiah's- class, I was allowed to venture out and try modeling something else. I decided to go with this antique looking rifle. I'm very excited to throw the high resolution model into Zbrush and really start making those details come to life. The concept image that I'm working from is from James T. Robb and can be found here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/dOaRJW

Week 04- Use of Basic Lighting

Here's my take on the basic lighting lesson we we taught this week! I individually drew all the shapes and turned on the alpha transparency so the shapes don't get messed as I try to blend out the colors. Here's the outcome versus the screenshot I took!

Module 1 Week 04 - Blueprints and Sequencer/Rendering In UE

This week in 3D art, we were tasked to import the environments we previously made in Maya into Unreal Engine 5. We also had to make a number of blueprints and choose the ones that best applied to our scene! For the most part, my scene only really had simple rotations and up and down movements so It wasn't too complicated, but here's a look at all my rendered video and blueprints!

Week 03 - Use of Value and Contrast

This week I decided to use this Thor line art to practice my values in. I really enjoyed making the lighting effects overall. I thought it was a bit difficult to keep the main shapes be clearly different values after adding shading and lighting to it, but I think it worked out in the end.

Here's a screenshot of my layers! I mainly used multiply, overlay, and screen for the layer blend modes for this piece.

Module 1 Week 03 Homework

This week in our 3D class at FIEA, we learned about hierarchal structures in Maya to keep organized and have an easier time animating objects. We were given a crane to correctly parent the objects for and then bring into UE5 to render.

We also started building an environment made out of basic primitives' in Maya that we will later bring into UE5. I decided to go for a fantasy floating crystal kind of theme. The inspiration I had in mind was the Allagan technology in Final Fantasy XIV.

Week 02 - Use of Silhouettes

This week, I tried my hand at redesigning Link from the Legend of Zelda. I decided to go with an ancient civilization theme. I used inspiration from Greek, Roman, Minoan, and Mycenean ancient cultures. This was a fun exercise to do. It was a bit hard to design since Link is a humanoid figure and changing his outfit and hair pretty much makes him lose what makes him recognizable. I did my best though and I'm mostly happy with the outcome.

Module 1 Week 02: Basics of Topology

Hey everyone! This week we learned some more about the basics of topology and some neat shortcuts for different techniques. I thought the shortcut using shift + D to make the scorpion tail was a super cool feature and I'm curious on how else I could apply that technique.

The preview smooth mesh mode was also very helpful making hard surface models that still have nice curves, I do think I'll be using more of it in the future.

For the robot, I decided to make it more cat-like! I was struggling a bit with the renders as well since it always came out too dark but I'm proud of the final product. I really like the high contrast look when it comes to metal so this works well with what I wanted!

Week 01 - Use of Basic Shapes

This week I tried my hand at designing some characters for class! I really enjoyed making the circle and triangle based creature. The square one was a lot harder for me to design and I just kept getting art block while trying to draw it. I did really enjoy this assignment though and I think it would be cool to see if I can translate these designs to 3D.
